President Bush's decision to deploy the missle defense system really has me steamed.

  • First, a missle defense system, when executed perfectly, won't protect the US. "Terrorists" or "rogue nations" who are bent on destroying the US won't use intercontinetal ballistic missles (if they can even get their hands on them). They will, for example, hijack a plane and drive it into the Pentagon. Or pack a freight ship full of explosives and try to blow up the Golden Gate Bridge (thanks, West Wing). If the missle defense system works flawlessly, people will find some other way to enact destruction on the US.

  • Our missle defense system doesn't execute perfectly. It's not even close! Our most recent test failed, and only one missle was launched. And the $8 billion in cost is only to intercept one vehicle at a time -- Nevermind having multiple missles launched. That'll probably be another $20 billion.

  • There is no need to change the current system. Detente has worked for 30 years now. What has changed? The Bush administration would argue that there are terrorists and rogue nations abound in the world. Terrorists could just easily use some other method of delivery (see above). Other countries will only use their weapons if they do not fear a retalitory attack (in other words, they are not rational). North Korea and Iraq may have leaders who are cruel and mean, but they are not irrational. It's funny how North Korea didn't decide to restart their nuclear program until after the US stopped giving them incentive to do so and called them part of the "axis of evil."

President Clinton shares some blame also. He continued to promote this assanine system instead of killing it when he had the chance.

However, it's more suprising to me that a father whose only strength was foreign policy has a son whose foreign policy is shit.

I know it's been a while, so I come bringing gifts of content:

  • I added a links page.
  • I added some new songs I'm working on in the music section.
  • DUTI works. I really, really, promise that it will stay working this time. High scores from early November have been preserved.
