Return to Sender

This is the opening to a letter I received in the mail today:

Dear Friend,

Please accept your Limited Edition 2004 Republican National Committee Gold Card with my congratulations.

Fewer than one percent of Republicans nationwide ever achieve Gold Card status - and your recognition is based on your outstanding support for our candidates in 2000 and 2002.

...

Sincerely,
Ed Gillespie

Tell me, what percentage of Democrats and Non-affiliated/Independent voters received a complimentary Republican National Committee Gold Card? Because I'm in that even more narrow demographic. Truth be told, I've never supported any of your candidates, unless by "support" you mean "write letters and emails protesting their stance on environmental issues, women's right to choose, national defense, and pretty much everything else." Oh, and I'm actually doing work on the Victory '04 for Kerry site. So, I think you've got the wrong person, even though my name IS on the envelope.

By the way, Ed, is handing out gold cards really the best way to try to get around that image that Republicans are all filthy rich?

HA! That's awesome. I think you should use your RNC Gold Card to get into the Secret RNC Meetings in Transylvania.

But this Gold Card qualifies you for Platinum-Plus(tm) American Citizenship! (I think this was an Onion concept) "It's like regular America, except without all the homeless folks and brown people."
